| | | | D'Addario XL Half Rounds - Discontinued??
Sign in to disble this ad
hey guys
I was visiting my local GC when I noticed that they were clearing out their Half Rounds. So I asked are they being discontinued, the fine young teenager told that that we being replaced.
So I bought a couple packs, since I have never used half-rounds, to check them out. I am in no means in love with them, (all about those chromes, baby) But I found it odd that D'Addario was discontinuing half rounds.
Anyone heard about this? I think maybe GC is just going to stop carrying them in stores or something. |

A couple of packs to try them out... haha... You just wasted your $, man. Good riddance! I'm not at all surprised that they are being discontinued. I had those strings on for two days before I cut them off. I tried everything to get rid of the "grabbiness", from butter to Carmex to Finger-Ease & Fast-Fret, even good ol' fried chicken... I *hate* half-rounds!

If you want old school nickel sound buy the XL nickel rounds and leave them on for 2 months and you will have the old school nickel round sound.
Those sticky, grabby, halfrounds were dead sounding in 3 days. Just Terrible! |

| | | dang!!!!
Hatred all around for these strings.....I havent put them on yet, I just may take them back after hearing this...
BTW: I went to a different GC today, to check out the used section and I noticed that they still had the half-rounds at full price, so I asked about them and they had not heard anything about being cleared out..
so who knows.......and I guess cares after these responses, right |

I guess somebody out there must like them, if they got past R&D and test-marketing. I just don't see it. They're horrendously "grabby" and they sound awful. I hope you like them better than I did. To each his own! They feel like sandpaper to me.

P.S. Hey, my 500th post! : :

Ironically, Chromes are more bright than the Halfrounds. |

| | | | I just got the new Bass Player Magazine in the mail yesterday and there is an ad for D'addario Strings with Daryl Jones and a picture of a set of Half Rounds below him. I don't think they are discontinued (Maybe they are ?) just not selling in those stores. I do wish they would bring back the S.S. sets and at give us a choice. I used the S.S. sets and liked them. The nickel sets go dead to fast for me. SGT.Pepper is right,If you want the old Nickel sound use the XL Nickelwounds |

They were even better before that though, when they were nickel (IMHO)...go figure! |

Patitucci is an endorsee of D'Addario strings. I bet his tone would be great with some XL nickel plated strings!

anyway, when i tried them i could not get used to the grabby feeling, and i've used lots of other strings like compression wounds, ground wounds, flats that all felt better than those things.
