What type of sound are you wanting to achieve?

I like both but can't make up my mind.
I posted the poll hoping to go by the one that gets the most votes.

No offense but that won't solve your problem I suggest buying a set of each and then letting your ears and hands do the talking. It's the only way.

I use both... I love the Chromes on my Jazz bass. I have a passive Jazz and it's pretty versatile. I can get a tone similar to JPJ on early Zep to Flea on Stadium Arcadium just by changing the way I attack the strings.

I'm uploading a clip of me playing... excuse my suckyness First sound clip is Dazed and Confused by Led Zeppelin, both pickups all the way up, tone rolled back about 25%. Second clip is Charlie by RHCP, both pickups all the way up, tone all the way up, with an aggressive finger picking technique. Then some slap on Blackeyed Blonde by RHCP, both pickups and tone 100% up. Then a little pickstyle in Holiday in Cambodia by the Dead Kennedys to give you an idea of the versatility of these strings. I recorded this with my MIM Jazz Bass with Quarter Pounders, direct into my Macbook w/ Garageband, no effects or amp models.

These strings are really versatile... hell, I use them in my metal band! They give the jazz a lot of extra low end that it doesn't seem to have with rounds (but that shouldn't be a problem on your active bass). What I love about them is that you can slide up and down the neck with no finger noise (I did a lot of sliding in the Charlie clip and you can't hear any noise )

I must say, I put the Chromes on this Jazz V Deluxe, and talk about mids and thunderous bottom especially on the low B string. I had to trim some of the silk at the end of the B string to make it fit through the bridge.

Chromes all the way ... no finger noise, light and easy on the fingers, wonderfully smooth and rich sound (versatile too).

carrots....

poll is missing one important thing...

and the type of bass is NOT the important thing...

what do you want from your bass...

do you want?

agressive slap + clean punchy, articulated fingerstyle (ie nickels)

or do you want?

old school funk + velvity rich creamy fingerstyle (ie chromes)

the difference is like yogurt and butter.
