D'addiero chromes Vs. DR black beauties.

Which would be the most preffered?

From what I've heard flat wounds are great for playing with a pick (whichis the method I use when sitting down) however round wounds are better for finger picking (which is what I use when standing).

Also I've heard that flats and slap don't mix to well (which I can't slap but I plan to remedy that soon and want to make slap/double slap my preffered method of playing)

As an added question I play 4 string but want to get a 5 string set so I can have heavier strings (I'm thinking this will better suit my style). Would this be recomended?

That is a new one, pick for sitting, fingers for standing. Rounds are great for pick playing and finger playing. Flats make good tightropes...

Are you saying you want a 5 string set so you could use B E A D strings on your 4 string?

Keeping tuned that way?

There are heavy gauge strings that can be tuned EADG or drop tune that will give you a heavier feel and not need to modify the nut too much.

You could finger or pick any strings you could put on a bass. Doesn't need to be flat or round for either style.

You could slap on flats, but not as easily as rounds and won't sound the same.

I've only had one bass that sounded good slapping flats. USA Fender P-Bass Deluxe. 3 band active EQ through a Marshall MB4410, 4 by 10". I boosted the mids and got a nice slap tone out of it.
Tried them on other non active basses slapping and the tone wasn't even close.

I have d'addario flatwound chromes on my Fender American P bass 5 string. I love them. I do not slap but do pop. I also play with my fingers and not a pick.

the difference between flats and coated is very different.

Going for something in a flatwound in most cases is going to give you a stiffer string in most cases.

Coated strings are going to feel slicker, be overall more responsive and brighter when compared to flats.

There are other strings in the middle. Half Round / Slick Rounds give you the best of flat and round strings... You have the smooth flat wound feel, with the responsiveness / playability of a roundwound. (not suggesting that flats are not playable, they are different from a roundwound).

Compression wounds that feel tighter than many roundwounds. They have a solid feel and strong punchy tone.

It sounds like you want a stiffer feeling string with a punchy tone?

I got chromes on my schecter C4 and black beauties on my schecter 004
Love the chromes, the way they feel and sound, take in account that if you get black beauties and use a pick, the coating will peel, and there is a "sticky" feel to them when playing with your fingers.
