Danelectro tuners and Nylon Strings

Sign in to disble this ad
So, today I got a package in the mail containing some Fender 7120s, which are unique because they are nylon roundwound NOT flatwound. So, I was very excited to string them up on my Danelectro 63 bass. However, as I string them through the bridge over the nut and through the tuners, they get stuck! The nylon strings are too large to fit through the Danelectro stock tuners I still really want to put them on my bass, but I don't know what to do. Will I need new tuners? If so, I don't think the traditional tuners you find on Fender basses will work because the headstock is tiny! Would this kind work instead: http://yhst-50206111187217.stores.ya...boseupba.html? Anyway here's a picture of my bass: http://www.nzmusician.co.nz/danelectro.jpg (as you can see the tuners are weird)
And here is a picture of the Dano longhorn bass, it has the same kind of headstock and tuners which this site has closeups of: https://www.themusiczoo.com/cgi-bin/...ction&key=2380

Thanks in advance!

Those Wilkinsons or the Gotoh mini bass tuners may work but you have to make sure there is enough meat in your headstock. You are going to have to enlarge the tuner holes and you need to make sure everything will still be strong enough. I had an earlier Longhorn reissue that came with the Gotohs but it definitely had a thicker neck and may have had a bigger headstock, I'm not sure.

Here is a picture of that bass.

Peace,
S

Okay sounds reasonable. The local guitar tech in town should be able to help me with this. Luckily it isn't my only bass, but it's the bass I want to use to experiment with those strings so it looks like an okay fix.
