DDT Stings

I saw these in Bass Player Mag a while back, I play in drop c tuning so it sounds like they would help my strings not feel floppy. Anyone have experiences these strings?

These are for dropping down the tuning (hence the DDT) of your entire set, not for drop tuning.

I am uncertain of any other brands that sell drop tuned sets other than me.

You should look for a set that looks something like;

.124 .084 .061 .043 .031
or
.130 .088 .064 .046 .033

The 115 DDT set should work nicely since with "drop C" you're probably used to the bottom string having lower tension than the others. Tuned to D they'll feel balanced and when you drop that bottom string it loosens up a bit. They have a great growly sound when you dig in.

FWIW.....

.... DRs tensions across the set in drop C (C G C F);

.115-(31.5) .095-(50.5) .075-(56.8) .055-(53.3)

.125-(37.0) .105-(61.1) .085-(68.2) .065-(71.7)

There are better solutions.

What are the tensions for drop-D on a standard 45-105 set?

D'Addario EXL165 .045 - .105

JustStrings Link

.045 (42.8) .065 (51.3) .085 (48.4) .105 (32.0)*

* the tensions as posted on JustStrings (consistent with their tension chart) - the dropped D was derived using D'Addarrio's tension chart.

Gauges from other manufacturers will be in the same ballpark - you can vary only so much internally on an external measure.

Right, so the DDT 115 set for drop-C is really comparable to a normal 105 set for drop-D ... somebody who likes that tension setup would find it comfortable. I actually really dig that for some things, drop D can feel great, makes that D sound really meaty and grindy. But if somebody was looking for even tensions ... that would not do the trick.

Yeah, when I tuned that set to D standard it felt pretty stiff. Now I know why. It's a lot more comfortable in D flat standard.
