Dead G string on black beauties?

Sign in to disble this ad
I jus got a new set of black beauties and the g string is noticeably duller than the rest of the strings, its really apparent when i slap it.

Could it be the fact that I wound it less times around the post than the other strings? I only barely wound it 1 round on the tuning post

If the string does not slip, it should work.

I have had problems with DR coated Black Beauties
being weak on some basses while they are adequate
on other basses.

Some folks like them. I think they are sub-standard,
but with the right bass, they can be fun to play.

I put them on 4 different basses. They sucked on two.
They sounded sub-par on one and ended up quite nice
on my MIM P bass,

Mine is on a EBMM stingray. The contrast between the g string and the rest is really shocking. Btw, while my g string is only wound 1 time around the post, its pretty firm.

I love BB's! However, once in a while, a string may come "new" out of the package... dead. This happened on my last set of La Bella flats... the g string. It's also happened with Thomastik's and a few other brands as well. I would try to get a replacement for your dead g string. Most likely, that's all it is. However, another wrap probably wouldn't hurt.

Also, Stingray's are notorious for some phinicky g string volume. Are you sure it wasn't like that before changing strings?

The g string sounded fine with the old strings. Its at a equal volume now, even with the dead string. Its not a volume issue, its just the fact that the g string doesnt have the 'zing' the other 3 strings have.

I wonder if they'll all age out to sound 'balanced'

Keep in mind Stingrays are known for pitiful sounding G strings...sounds like this is not a good match.

I'm learning.

Strings will not sound good if not matched well.

I hated my BBs until I put them on my MM P bass.

That made all the difference.
