I decided to try out bluesteels and they sound great, but they seem to take skin off my fingers really easly. I have been playing for 7 years and no other string ever did this. I always used rounds. Im not sure if ill buy another set of dean markley meat grinders again. |

I agree, I just bought a new set for an older bass I have, the strings sound fantastic but you're right, they are very rough and do make finger squeaks quite easily. I've been playing bass and guitar everyday for about 30 years so my fingertips are well broken in.
My new bass came with Fender strings. I like them and will probably stick with them. |

My friend who plays guitar wont use stainless strings becasue he says they tear up your fingers. Maybe for once a guitar player is right. Which is pretty rare. I want to know how he got the ball end of a string stuck in his bridge. It took me an hour last night trying to get it out. It just doesnt seem possible to get it stuck as far as he did. Anyway back on topic Are there other dean markley strings that arent stainless steel and sound smiliar? Or maybe I should just go back to ernie balls. |

| | | | If you're used to nickle, any stainless string will seem rough. I just replaced the fender stock nickle set on my new Jazz with DR Low Rider stainless and they feel really rough compared to the stock strings. But they sound freakin amazing!

The kind I've played are Dean Markley Bass Blasters. They come packaged in a two-pack, and at a very nice price.

I like them a lot, and signed up with Dean Markley after using them. They were a big part of the reason why! NPS Blue Steels

If you have a nickel allergy then there's not a lot of options. I think their Alchemy strings might work though. |

Stainless steel is an alloy and some varieties contain nickel. Pretty specific stuff...I'd suggest emailing them directly. |

Or maybe I should just go back to ernie balls. | I've always found the windings to feel taller on the DM's and thus feel tougher on the fingers. I ONLY use stainless on my fretted basses and have for years with NO such issues ( DR Hi Beam, MTD, D'Addario pro steels ). I think it's just the way DM's are made. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
