I recently used the 127 in the Will Lee set of this string. I play a half step down so I tried the 135, and I can't decide on which one to settle for

Any suggestions?

Also I usually use the .27 for the high c and have now tried the .30 and it feels too stiff, do you guys think it is because I am not use to it?

Thanks,

Andrew

I was also wondering.

there are so many of us bassists here who use 135 - 140 but as far as the pros they never seem to use anything bigger than 130 except for a few guys.

whats up with that they always seem to use small b's like 125s and stuff

Andrew

I have the Will Lee 127's on my Roscoes. I like them a lot. Nice bottom, just stiff enough and strong mids. The B is great no clank and sounds rich.

Most .125 users have always used .125s - I like a .135 or .140 for B on a 34" scale.

The Dean Markley .135 is a 3 wrap, and if you are going to Bb it is likely the better gauge of the two you tried.

I didn't think there is/was a .140 SR2000 - is or isn't there one?

Your right,

I have the 135 on now, but my band plays alot of main riffs on the B. We play technical death metal and the size of the Low B is very hard to keep it moving fast. Do you think I will get used to the size or should i downsize?

I know john myung uses a 130 and he plays in the same tuning, he seems fine, so do many other guys as well.

I just want the most economic way to go. If im going to use a 135 I gotta pay 11 bucks extra as a single plus shipping because I am in Canada. at least with the 127 I am close to 130 and I don't have to go buying singles.

I know im cheap

A couple of things the .135 will enable - it will be better defined sonically (better overtone structure and will 'cut through' better), and because it will be tighter you can drop your action (if the action is low you can pick up speed). The size difference is something you'll adjust to very quickly - it isn't THAT much bigger.

I get the cheap thing... better an electric than an upright, eh?

Some manufacturers are coming around to balanced sets. Until they do that for a 5 string as well we are stuck making do.

I prefer a thinner E (.100/.105) and B (.125/.128) and thicker G(.45,.50), D (.65), and A (.85).

It's probably due to my playing that the E/B are usually louder than the other 3, and thinner strings on the G/D/A always sound a bit twangy to me. The E&B always have plenty of bottom on my end, and others seem to lack it, so the situation above works for me.
