Dean Markley SR2000 string length problem

Sign in to disble this ad
I bought a set of SR2000's for my 4 string Music Man Bongo. The "E" string is too long with the metal string winding wrapping onto the string post (way past the silk). I'm afraid the string will break if I use it like this. I noticed on Dean Markley's web site that there is no choice of scale length for these strings (only one length). It's too short for string through body btw, I checked that too. The Bongo is standard 34" scale.

That fit is not right, the fat string winding of the E should not be wrapping around the string post (just the silk wrapped portion should). Anyone else experience this?

I just looked at a couple of my basses that I have strung with SR2000's, and they too have the fat part of the string wound around the post...but I have never had an SR2000 break on me in the last 10 years or so of playing them.

Thank's Thundar. Is it just the 4th string that does that? (I never went ahead with the G,D and A strings).

On my basses, yes, the E is the only one that does that.

Thanks again! I just e-mailed Dean Markley with my issue and I'll post their response once I hear back from them. Good to know that the E still works fine despite the long wrap.

Sounds like they overcompensated for string thru body bridge use by a good inch or so.
