Dean Markley SR2000 Strings?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm thinking of trying a set of Dean Markley SR2000 strings. They're stainless steel, but the D,A & E string are taper wound at the ball end (core wire exposed). Dean Markley claims the string will "vibrate more freely".

Any thoughts on this? Any one here try them? I assume they are bright because they're SS.

I thought the idea of a taper wound, usually only on the "E" string, was to avoid bending a heavy wrap/larger guage over the bridge saddle (ie: a .110 E string).

Well I ain't no big-city string expert but it seems to me that any change to the string beyond the saddle contact point wouldn't change the vibration of the string at all. That's of course except the change in resonance caused by
the difference in string through bridge/body.

Isn't the point of tapered strings to put the saddle contact (witness) point directly on the core?
