Dean Markley Super Rounds

So I've searched for thoughts and opinions on the Super Rounds but haven't seen anything on them (within about 3 pages of searching anyways). Lots of stuff on Blue Steels (which I personally dislike) but nill on the Super Rounds.

Anyone use them? What do they sound like? I'm trying to find something that's a blend of the DR Hi-beams I currently use and something more vintage-sounding. Any help?

I've used the DM Super rounds a couple of times. I actually thought they were good. They get no mention here at all really. They seem to be the same as the DM SR 2000's, but without being taperwound. Again...I thought they sounded really good. I believe Marcus Miller USED to use them BEFORE he switched over to DR years ago.

I also dislike the upper mid honk of the blue steels. I used the SuperRounds for many, many years, and found them a more 'funk voiced' version of the classic Roto Sound strings back in the day.

I now use DR Hi Beams (like you) and love them. I find the Hi Beams are a little more modern and smooth sounding (like you) and also find they last A LOT longer than the SuperRounds.

If you want a little more 'grit' in the tone, and slightly tighter tension, the DR Lo Riders.... the different core make them feel a little more like other SS roundwounds, and they move the tone a little more toward a 'classic' Rotosound sort of grind... but still more refind.

Hope that makes sense.

Great description KJung. Hit the nail on the head as far as how I feel about the DM Super rounds and the DR Low-Riders. All in all...I really thought the Super Rounds were good.

Good info. I picked up two packs for $16 the other day from a gentleman that was clearing out some stuff he had laying around.

I was looking for something that sounded more like Stu Cook with CCR. I've got a pair of flatwounds on the Rickenbacker now and it sounds pretty good. The jazz will probably get the super rounds. Which string is Dean Markley referring to in the description of these strings? Something like, "it's just like an old British string but better". Are those Rotosounds they're referring to? (As much as ya think ya know...there's always something new).

Yep! DM is referring to Rotosounds.
