deep bass strings

I've been wondering on which strings i should get next?

i want to have the sound of paul mccartney on the beatles-"you never give me your money", and john paul jones on led zepplin-"dazed and confused".

real deep and no brightness at all but doesnt sound quite like an upright.

i've narrowed it down to either flatwounds or tapewounds which type/brand would get me close on a mid heavy bass (sounds like a rickenbacker 4001)

Personally, I'd recommend flats over tapewounds. As far as brand, I'd go with DR flats -- they sound great.

Both of those tunes are good examples of a flatwound sound. I have no proof of this but suspect that "you never give me your money" also had any remaining high end EQ'd out in studio.. still a sweet tone somehow though.

Just try a set, you will get very reasonably close to that sound with some minor tweaking of your tone controls.

On Abbey Road, I heard he used these strings:

JPJ has said that he was playing only roundwounds by the time he was in LZ. He was also very experienced in a studio by that time. I suspect his studio sound was due mostly to the board preamp module and skillful production. That said, a Jazz with the tone down and the right amp and cabs might do it whatever the strings, I suspect.

i kno the strings they were using i just want strings that can get that heavy tone. i think im gonna just buy fender tapewounds and fender flatwounds and compare on the same bass (same bass, same manufacturer, same amp, same setup, and fairly cheap...whichever i dont like ill give to my dad who has a fretless.).
