How long are you supposed to soak your strings for the desired effect to occur? Half an hour, or a few hours? I have a gig tonight and am short on cash for new strings, wondering if I can pull something off.

Put them in now, but i keep mine in for days because i don't like to babysit my strings. I think it work best after about a day, but you may get better results...i have very acidic hands...

These were brand new strings about a week ago. But that night I was being Bartender for my friends and squeezed a few limes before playing. I washed my hands, but the acid from that must have killed my strings.

Yeah, no kidding! Another cool thing would to get one of those cheap jewelry cleaners (it vibrates the contents)....

Yep, this will clean them in short order. Called an Ultrasonic Cleaner.

Worked like a dream. I soaked them for about 30-40 minutes with some shaking at the beginning and end. The strings went well, but the show was nearly a disaster!

Sounds like the inexpensive way to go.
Thanks for the info.
