How long are you supposed to soak your strings for the desired effect to occur? Half an hour, or a few hours? I have a gig tonight and am short on cash for new strings, wondering if I can pull something off.

But that night I was being Bartender for my friends and squeezed a few limes before playing. I washed my hands, but the acid from that must have killed my strings.
