diagnose my perfect string brand - you know you want to.

Hi,

I play a precision with flats strung 45-105 (Rotosound Jazz jobbies) which works for me. For a more contemporary, brighter sound, I have a musicman sub (active) strung 40 - 95 (I think) with EB slinkies. I'm not happy with the slinkys for a number of reasons.

1: they're unsilked

2: they're a bit floppy (my playing style lacks finesse hence they rattle a bit when I dig in esp with a plectrum)

3: D and G strings remain on the bright side, when the E and A have bedded in.

So what I need, is a silked set, probably a fatter guage and a bit more even sounding.

Suggestions??

DR FatBeams (though they're naked too, don't know why that would mater though) or Rotosound Swing 66 (Nickels if you don't want super bright)

I find naked strings more fiddly to wind - not sure why, just do.

Maybe that's just the strings you've tried or your imagination. Give the DRs a try; even if they are a bit more fiddly to wind, I'm sure the tone will overwrite that.
