Did I get a bum set of DR SS Lo-Riders?

I got a couple of sets of stainless steel Lo-Riders from MF last week as they were on sale.

I put them on my Spector Euro 5LX, and I noticed they weren't really "zingy". After a couple hours at home and a couple hours at rehearsal, the B is already "thumpy". The others don't sound very crisp either.

This is my first experience with stainless steel strings. I've used nickel D'Addario XL's forever on my other basses, and I had a set of nickel Lo-Riders on the Spector before these strings. I was under the impression steel was brighter than nickel. The nickel Lo-Riders sounded zingier than the steels.

So did I get a bad set?

I've used two sets of SS and two sets of nickel Lo Riders. They're pretty bright and, in my experience anyway, it takes quite a long time for that brightness to start to fade to the point where I *really* like how the strings sound. And, yes, the SS's were even brighter than the nickels.

Your experience with this set doesn't sound like my experiences with Lo Riders. Could be a bad set.

Yeah, I suck, I know that. But at least I suck a little less than I did yesterday.

Thanks for the reply. I'm wondering if they've been sitting in MF's warehouse for a while. They're not really vacuum packed so I guess air could get at them. I'll probably out the other set on and run these through the denatured alcohol.
