Did I get ripped off!?

Sign in to disble this ad
So I bought the rotosound swing 66 bass strings cause I know john entwistle designed and used them. Anyways I was just thinking to myself "Don't rotos wrapped with silk?" I look at my bass and the strings don't have silk near the ball ends or at the end of the strings. They are wearing down my fb faster than super slinkies do but this left me wondering. Should I call up my GC and see if I can get a refund?

Thx

I called em and he checked them and the one's he checked had the silk ends. I think some guy must've taken his strings and put them in the roto package and the guys at gc had no idea. I got had!

1. Why are you paying GC to put strings on a bass? Seriously... learn the minor upkeep things. It will save you money and make you a better musician.

2. It could easily be an honest mistake. Or, they could have put an even pricier set of strings on your bass.

You bought the nickel ones not the stainless steel. Swing Bass 66 SS has the silk, nickel ones don't.

Next time, order them online from bass emporium. I'll bet even with shipping from Austin, you'll get a better deal, and GC is notorious for goofy screw ups like this.

No. I bought them and put em on myself at home. Later did I realize that they have silk on them. They were for $23.?? tax included, that's why I bought them at my GC. And are you sure they could be the nickel ones? Anyways, IMO they sound better than super slinkies (what I normally use) and tear up my fingers less, not so much my fingerboard tho... I wanna know what they are!

Yeah if they are Swing Bass 66s with no silk they're the nickel ones.

Are they the stainless box or the nickel box. They're quite different...
Here's some pics:

Feel free to correct me, I'm not always known to be right. This is just what I've noticed being a Roto player myself...

Do yourself a favor, next set try DR nickle, either Sunbeams or the higher tension nickle LoRiders. The LoRiders will generally require you to tighen the truss a bit. If $$ is tight , try the D'Addario nickle rounds, but they last me around six hours of heavy use vs months for the DR's. Worth the price difference X3.

Well, I see the problem. Don't just ask the drones at Guitar Cancer for "Rotosound strings". You wanted the RS-66 set. The "S" means "steel" while the set you seem to have purchased is RN-66 where the "N" stands for "nickel".

So, no, you did NOT get ripped off. Not knowing what you want and buying it anyway isn't a rip-off. Unless of course you are naive enough to expect any kind of reliable help, education, or customer service at either Wal-Mart or GC.

John
