So im really new to playing bass, I bought a ibanez sr485 in really nice condition for a good price, looking around the internet i found this bass is probably 5 or 6 years old and the strings were original according to the previous owner so i decided i would get some new ones, I wanted a little thicker set. the only set the local store had was E B super slinky. They were a little thicker .135 for the b string and i figured that might give me a little more punch since i have a small amp. Anyhow as it was my first time ever putting strings on, i overtightened the b string looking for b (turning the wrong way) there was a loud pop. to me it sounded like wood cracking. the string broke by the tuner and came unwound. I went back to the store and bought a single string, d'addario .130 was the only single string they had for a b. i installed it , everything seems fine. but as ive never broke a string before and to me it sounded like wood cracking should i be worried about something else? its been two weeks, its stayed in tune after retuning it the second day after playing a bit. I guess the question is what would breaking a string from overtightening sound like. i see no damage anywhere but i didnt look at truss rod...or down inside where it screws in? what else could have broken? |
