Hey. I keep it original with the 4 string bass but i was curious and wanted to know what is the difference between 4 strings and 5,6 string basses? Why do some prefer to play the 5 or 6 string bass instead of the 4 string?

5 string adds 5 more low notes
6 string adds 5 more low notes and 5 more high notes...only difference

The other difference is that, with extended range basses, you have more note options in a single position (you don't need to shift your left hand as much to get to certain notes). In this respect, ERBs are actually easier to play than 4 string basses.

Because a 4-string bass (in standard tuning) doesn't go or can't go simultaneously as high and low as I want and/or need it to go for the music I play and for the way I want to play it.
