Difference between Pressure wound and Compression wound?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi everyone,

I was just wanting to know what the difference is between Pressure wound and Compression wound strings, if there is any difference?

For instance I use GHS Pressure wounds and if I can find them I will use the Alembic strings which are Compressed wound strings.

Thanks,

Joe

The details of the Alembic vs the GHS strings may differ (ratio of core wire to wrap wire diameter, etc) but it's the same idea: the wrap wire starts out round and is then "compressed" to an oval shape before wrapping. The result is somewhere between a flatwound and a roundwound sound.
