difference in roundwound??

Sign in to disble this ad
i use rotosound 66 swing bass, i went to a local guitar store and they only had the 66 in xtra long scale & those are too long for my J bass. i picked up nickel roundwound D'Addario with the same gauges, is there a huge difference in tone from the steel from nickel??

yes stainless steel sounds brighter than nickels... for a long time steel will still remain zingy esp those DR strings... and when dead steels gives a nice dark thud..

and nickels are bright when first played, after it settles it'll become a bit mellow and sounds sweet... IMO

+1 to DR stainless rounds staying zingy for a long time. I'm not usually a stainless player (with rounds, I will play the hell out of some stainless flats), but back in July I decided to give DR strings a spin as I'd never played them up until then. Bought a .105 set of Hi Beams, and threw them on my Jazz. They're STILL zingy. And it's freakin' November!

But I also like D'Addario when it comes to nickel rounds. They're usually relatively inexpensive especially if you order them online, and they sound great in my opinion.

D'Addario nickels sounds great after they worn a little.. they give that mellow sound.. but for nickels I'd prefer Ernie Ball Extra Slinky..they're lighter ones..

In short, yes! There is a huge difference, nothing wrong with either just preference. If you haven't already it's worth trying both at least once
