Differences with TI Strings

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm considering trying a set of TI roundwound strings. I've had TI flats on one of my basses for years. I'd like to try a set of their roundwounds. The problem is I'm not really sure what the difference is between the Jazz E-Bass, Power Bass and Infeld Bass?

Looking at the web site, it appears that the Jazz E-Bass has the lowest tension with the Power Bass and Infeld Bass having about the same. Is this correct?

Which set would be the brightest?

Thanks.

The Jazz Rounds do have the lowest tension of all the rounds. In fact they are lower tension than any of the TI bass strings. Much lower tension than the Jazz Flats. That being said they are fantastic rounds and pretty much the only rounds I play anymore. Very mellow with a great mid range tone. You will probably need to tweak your truss rod and adjust playing style but if you want a great mid rangy round then it's 100% totally worth it.

The Infelds are slightly less tension than the Powerbass but more than the Jazz Rounds. I would say they are on par with most rounds tension wise and what most people would be comfortable going with if coming from using standard rounds. These are mellow as well but not as high in the mid range. They sound great and are the most affordable. They tend to sound broken in from the first time you throw them on so if you are looking for "zing" they won't have them.

The Powerbass are actually a higher tension round. Not over the top but in comparison to other TI's you can tell the difference. They are made for rock and have a very high output and get that bright zing sound that is needed for louder more agressive music. I played these for years when I was doing loud power pop stuff. Great string for those applications.

I'll add that the infeld sa's last for friggin' ever. I've got a set on my G&L SB1...... they've been on and off several basses over the last 2 years, and with a quick boiling, are still going strong! They're fairly even across the frequency spectrum.... not overly hyped, or overly scooped, with a good feel in the lower mids. I'm loving them on the G&L. I use D'Addario XL's on my jazz, and they sound good even as they wear. But on the G&L, they start to sound hallow as they wear...... not so with the SA's.
