Discontinued Signature Strings...need to find new ones

Sign in to disble this ad
So here's the thing. I had a good thing going with Fodera in that I had a signature set of custom gauge strings through them where I could just call em up and say "hey it's Adam again I need some more sets of my strings" and they knew exactly what to send me. Well the last time I called they informed me that they had "discontinued" one of the gauges that I use in my string set and so they would no longer be available, which is unfortunate because I loved how the Fodera strings felt. So now I'm on the quest for a new brand of strings. I've been talking with Ken Smith and they offer all the gauge sizes I need/use but I've never used their strings and before I blow $40 on a test set I wanted to get some opinions hoping that at least one person here has tried the Fodera nickel strings and ken smith burner strings. Any thoughts?

I'd be curious too. I'd like to find a .40 - .105 set of nickel rounds.

.040 - .105 is easy to make, but surprisingly uncommon for stock sets.

.400 - .105... I'm sure Garry Goodman would be all over that, although I can't see the .400 being very flexible.

Oh yeah, .40...not .400! I'm not running power lines to my house

I don't know why nobody offers that as a set, must be some reason.

.40 is the same as .400... so .040...

So you want something like .040 - .105

thats no problem

Its not a big deal... talking about something like a .40 -.100 set from "insert brand here" you know what you mean... but when putting together a "custom set" the . and the 0 can make a difference here and there

Yeah 40 and 105 are a good match. The tension of the 40 G is lower than that of the 105 E, which I approve of, I prefer tension to fall slightly and steadily from low to high strings.

Why? Only tradition. No good reason.

The tradition is for tension to rise from low to high strings, most sets are like this. Circle K Strings and a very few others are now selling sets with equal tension on each string, which is a huge improvement. You and I Mr. Bongo are ahead of the times with our falling tension

I built a custom set of DR Sunbeams here:
Build your own set!

Which ended up costing about the same as the Circle K's I have now, which is great because I prefer the sound of Sunbeams. I tried this before at Just Strings, but it was approaching $50 using singles so I abandoned that idea. This should work great.

I am working on adding these "Build your own set" options for Ken Smith, D'Addario, and for any other manufacturers I am able to construct custom sets out of singles.

There are two sets of products, those already signed up as "Forum VIP's" and the standard user. To become a "Forum VIP" register on the site and put in the comments you are a forum member!

I went to that site and their total came to $33 and some change but shipping was over $10 so I don't know how much cheaper they are then from Ken Smith at that point...I'm waiting for Ken Smith to send send a quote including shipping.

Shipping shouldnt be that high. Usually +-5 for one set.

Pm me what you were interested in. Plus, you are not yet a forum vip for special pricing yet!!!!!

Also, i think you were putting together a burner set. I have not added the burner easy build your own set option. It will be up later tonight.

I will check into why shipping came out to so much with the burners... The weight my be wrong on one or more strings.... Thanks for letting me know I want bassstringsonline.com to be the best most easiest to use site with the most fair prices and incentives to shop with us!

Obviously it is your decision to purchase directly from Ken Smith Basses. I am direct with him so I will not step on his toes at this point...

But for future reference... The Burner "Build your own set" option will be available on my website - BassStringsOnline.com later this evening.

There WAS an error in the product listings for the burner singles and I am double checking the other single strings now. They had the incorrect shipping weight and size.

I just want the best price I can get and if you give it to me then you will get my money plain and simple. Lemme know when the option is there and everything is corrected so I can check it out!
