Do 2 wrongs make a right?

Hi Tbers,

I have recently finished assembling a swamp ashe "P" with a new Warmoth bubinga neck w/ ebony board. I've strung some Black Diamond, roundwound black coated strings between a brass nut and a heavy solid brass bridge. No surprises here! I was expecting a rather bright zingy instrument from the get go, but come on. It has so much hamonic bell like song in it that I can hardly stand it. To make matters worse, during the months of assembly my sonic love intrest has turned more to the dark side

Would putting some duller flatwound strings on an overly bright instrument (on the acoustic level,) bring this bass into some sort of happy medium? Or does one need to play to the instrument's strengths and just live with the fact that she'll be a bit lively!? Will darker strings just give the instrument the worste of both worlds? I don't want to try to make this bass something it is not, so I guess this ? is a bit more on the side of bass player ethics.

Any sugestions would be appriciated. Thanks a lot,
jeremy
