Do all Rotosounds have silk wrapping?

Sign in to disble this ad
My band leader just bought me 3 sets of Rotosounds of the 'bay, but I'm just a tad skeptical as to whether they actually are Rotos. Every pic I've seen of a set of Rotos shows silk wrapping around the tuner end of the string... do they all have this, or are there some that don't? I'm just wondering, cuz these strings aren't as 'alive' as I thought they would be. I'm thinking maybe we were scammed.... any thoughts?

nope, the ROTO BASS series are without silk wrapping.
they are the same as the RS series but warmer sounding to my ears for some reason.
they cost 14$ for a set...good deal that works great for me.

The Roto Bass series are Nickel, that's probably why you find they're a bit warmer, as opposed to the Swing Bass which are stainless.

I believe Rotosound themselves say the Rotobass are the same strings as the RS66LN only without the silk.

I'm not sure what purpose that silk serves anyway. But I use the Rotobass strings and have been pleased. Not quite as zingy as the SS Rotos and not as rough either.

yea i know man, sounds kinda silly that the same string will sound different but then i saw that in the bass player strings review that they found the RS66 with less bass then the ROTO...kind of weird ha ?
