do any metal players use flatrounds?

I find that I actually don't like brightness as much as everybody else does. When I was a guitar player I'd keep my strings on til they were black for this reason. But I also like metal and will be forming a metal band with a freind. So my question is, do any metal players use flatwounds? I have a pair of GHS flats but haven't put them on yet.

I've heard a few different reasons for this. Either he uses his fingernails, or the strings hit the frets. Don't know if it's because of low action or because of hard playing.

Harris actually has pretty high action, but when he strikes the string he picks towards the fretboard.
