Do Flats naturally roll off high mids?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm trying out flats on my jazz bass in my funk cover band? I use a SWR Basic redface with 2x12 eden cab with Daddario roundwound nickles and usually roll off the highs around 800hz and boost my lows and highs to get the sound I want. Since I put flats on my bass I've had to roll back in and really boost the high mids to get some punch out my sound again. Do flats usually need more high mids boosted to get them to come to life?

BTW so far I'm liking the flats Labellas
