Do you use the same guage on every bass?

I find that my P bass feels and maybe sounds better with 45-105 guage, and my J copy with light guage (40-90?) strings. Does anyone else do this?

Sometimes I wonder if having different guages slows me down technique-wise because the feel is different. Should I pursue the same guages across basses?

Also I tried the 50-110 flats and they put a nice bow in the neck, at full y tightened truss. I may try this on a new P neck I bought, because obviously the J neck is too thin for this kind of abuse

My main tuning is DGCF, and I use either the La Bella Hard Rockin' Steels D Tuning set (.054-.075.-.090-.111) or Ernie Ball Power Slinkys (.055-.075-.090.-.110.) For standard tuning, I like .045-.105.

I always use the same guage for 4-strings. 45-105.

I'm still experimenting with low-B but my choice is either 130 or 135.

I do use different brand or type (SS, nickel) depending on the bass.

i usually buy some ernie ball super slinkies and d'addario (whatever the standard set is called), put the E & A slinkies and D & G d'addarios on my J bass and the E & A d'addarios with the D & G slinkies on my OLP. i really detest having to setup my basses again with different strings.

Nope. Heavy flats on my P, not so heavy rounds on the J, pretty light rounds on the Sterling.

Different basses, different sounds, different techniques, different approaches.

I generally use 45-105s on my fretted basses, but prefer 40-100s on my fretless.
