Do it yourself string coating

Just as a goof I was thinking of applying a coating of liquid electrical tape to a bass string, let it dry and see if the result is the same as what tape wounds are. My objective is to see if liquid electrical tape would be a way to repair a tape wound when it begins to show signs of wear, primarily where you pluck it.

I think you're doomed to fail, but, what the heck, it's cheap enough to give it a try. Take the strings off first though and give them a good cleaning to give the rubber gunk a chance to adhere.

Let us know how it goes.

I just posted here about a week ago about makeing some tapewounds by winding teflon plumbing thread tape. It worked pretty good and the teflon tape shows no sign of wearing off. This may not be the case with heavy duty sweaty stage playing but no problem at home just jamming. I used an old set of DR Hi Beams that I cleaned with acetone first. The only thing I noticed is that it made the usually springy and easy to bend Hi Beams somewhat stiffer. Try it and have fun.
