I've got my 57 reissue P-bass strung with TI flats and this is what they sound like.

I played on the song gasoline dream with my warmoth p/j, but the j was off, so it was essentially a p. Tone knob was rolled all the way off. |

But the consensus seems to be they work best with a light touch, something I *don't* have.
For flats, aggressive finger style, and rock I would recommend at least looking at chromes.
EDIT: I have not listened to any of the clips. I surf the web with my laptop and listening to bass lines on the laptop is a waste of time

I really light light gauge chromes but TI jazz flats are a fantastic string with a tone of their own ...go for it.

Play TIs too hard and they bark.
For metal played with heavy fingerstyle I'd suggest Rotosound flats, they've got better rock tone IMO and they're higher tension so you can really pound on them.

TI's rule.. | Oh that's not me on the youtube clip, it's just a sample of a good P-bass using TI flats.

| | | | Thud Thud Thud...I would not use them for metal but that is just me. I have them on my P and will probably have to take them off and put on DR Sunbeams since I just joined a band where my bass sound has to be a bit more agressive. They sound great for many applications but if you need some "zing" to your tone, I would not do it. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
