I've got my 57 reissue P-bass strung with TI flats and this is what they sound like.

nice clip man. I have a USA P on my way right now and am thinking about throwing som flats on it. Thing is, I play metal and hard rock, and have a very aggressive finger style. Do they get gnarly sounding when played aggressively?

I played on the song gasoline dream with my warmoth p/j, but the j was off, so it was essentially a p. Tone knob was rolled all the way off.

I never liked the TIs. But the consensus seems to be they work best with a light touch, something I *don't* have.

For flats, aggressive finger style, and rock I would recommend at least looking at chromes.

EDIT: I have not listened to any of the clips. I surf the web with my laptop and listening to bass lines on the laptop is a waste of time

I just put Labella's on mine - like em - but want to try the TI's cause they get so much freaking good press here.

I stayed away from TIs for a while and finally bought into the hype. I really light light gauge chromes but TI jazz flats are a fantastic string with a tone of their own ...go for it.

Yeah you'd need a lighter touch. Play TIs too hard and they bark.

For metal played with heavy fingerstyle I'd suggest Rotosound flats, they've got better rock tone IMO and they're higher tension so you can really pound on them.

Oh that's not me on the youtube clip, it's just a sample of a good P-bass using TI flats.

Steve Harris has his own signature Roto flats, you may want to give them a try:

I just posted a thread with sound clips of these strings (and La Bella and DR) if you're interested in a side by side by side comparison.

Sound clips - FLATS (DR, La Bella, Rotosound)

Thud Thud Thud...I would not use them for metal but that is just me. I have them on my P and will probably have to take them off and put on DR Sunbeams since I just joined a band where my bass sound has to be a bit more agressive. They sound great for many applications but if you need some "zing" to your tone, I would not do it.
