i love the way new ss sound. the sound can be prolonged if you take the time to clean your fret board before restringing, washing your hands everytime before you play, and finally wiping down the strings with a lint free cloth after your done playing..

Some famous players changed strings frequently. Was it Entwhistle who changed them every day?

I remember reading about a recording artist who said he would change them between takes if he could.

Now that is some new string love.

I change strings every show, which is about twice a week. This isn't as bad as it sounds because I keep my strings and boil them so they can be reused, but they can only be cleaned about 3 times before they are too brittle and snap. Regardless, fresh strings are the bomb as for as I'm concerned.

I'd sell my soul for the new Stainless Steel smell on my fretted bassesthe vast majority of the time! (Of course being an Atheist I'd know it's a loaded deal on my end )

I so envy the high-end artists that talk about changing their strings evey 2nd or 3rd gig.

Story is that midway through a take, Anthony Jackson stopped playing.
Changed his strings (which he'd put on that day) again, and then did the take.
THAT is some new string love, and some seriously big ears as well.

I know the bassist and guitarist from Yes used to change strings between every take.

I love the new string sound. That little extra "twang" goes a long way in punching out between a hyperactive drummer and a distortion happy guitard.

I'm probably in the minority here (especially in this thread), but I can't stand the bright, clangy sound of new rounds. I have some 2-year-old Rotosounds on my Fender Jazz that just keep getting better with age, at least in my opinion.

Fresh Rotos make me happy, but so do really old flats.

Come on guys, it's Entwistle. Do the man justice and spell his name right!

Looks like I'm also in the minority in this thread too. I really like stainless steel strings, but I like them best after they've been broken in and the zing is gone. I had my 55-02 for about 2 years and it still had the original strings on it when I sold it. I thought it sounded great. When I first got my old SR5 I put a set of SS Lo Riders on it and they were still on it when I sold it a year later, again, I thought it sounded great. My current SR5 is almost a year old, still has the original Slinky's on it, and I think they also sound great. The only reason I'm thinking of changing them is that I miss the stiffer feel of the Lo Riders I had on the old one.

I put a set of D'Addario Chromes on my fretless SX right after I bought it and I doubt I'll ever change those!
