Does lowered tuning ascrew up tonal

We had a new guitarist come into the group and he basically said everyone tune down..to Eflat. We all know a host of artists do it.. that's not my issue.

my issue is what i hear now.. I'm playing a 5 string with the following factory gauges:

125 105 85 65 45.

I've never noticed this before ( and being a relatively new player.. i attributed it to some change in playing style.. or playing the neck...

Here's what I have... I have a pretty decent tone on B.E.A But D and G fall off significantly in tonal body and sound level --- it seems neck position (playing) might be a variable also.

Raise the pickups on the upper side??... tell him to tune his guitar where it belongs... I'm beginning to run a short fuse with all of this anyway...

I've been thinking about Chrome Flats.. might as well put that in the mix.

on a previous thread that never got answered.. do i need to worry about the light increase in length requirement to run a through body bridge.

Would dropping pitch really screw up the tonal regulation like this from string to string??

Thanks for the help

Tuning down a 1/2 step will soften the tension a bit. So ya, maybe raise the pup on the D & G side and higher tension strings if you are going to stay 1/2 step down all the time. (If you feel it's too mushy for your taste). Then, reset your action to taste and check intonation for peace of mind.

Through body bridge: 34" scale bass = regular long scale, 35" scale bass needs extra long/super long or you come up short at the nut.
