Does Status make their own strings?

Sign in to disble this ad
It's a well known secret that many string "manufacturers" are actually just buying strings from somebody else and repackaging them. I've been using Status strings for a long time, and they're the only company that offers double ball strings in the gauges I require. But they are very expensive due to the weak dollar and shipping costs overseas. I'm curious to know if they might be getting their strings from somebody else - perhaps a manufacturer that is a little closer to home so I might be able to save a few bucks. Anybody know?

For the record, my gauges are 135, 105, 75, 45, tuned CGDA.

I wonder if they would just tell you? I love their tapewounds but it is a pain to order from the UK being in TX.

I'd say it's near impossible that Status would actually have an in-house facility for string manufacturing... ditto for Sadowsky, Ken Smith, Zon, etc. It would be interesting to establish just who does make the strings we use, and who just packages them; it might turn out that some major brands have identical strings.

If you are using a Steinberger, you might consider a string adapter to allow the use of conventional strings ... I have one on mine, made from machined aluminum, and it works fine.

Try Vinci or La Bella. They both do a LOT of OEM work.

as does GHS, although I'm pretty sure these are all american companies. GHS and La Bella for sure anyway. Maybe Rotosound? They have been making strings in England for a long time, could be they do some OEM stuff.

It's not really a question of simply "buying strings from somebody else and repackaging them". Rather, many companies have strings made to their own specifications by string manufacturers that actually have the facilities to make strings. So, you might know that A's strings are made in B's factory, but that doesn't mean that A's strings are identical to the ones B sells under their own name.

If you're interested in double ball-end strings, I'm sure you could get a list of string makers who make them, but they're not going to be the same as Status strings even if they come from the factory where Status has theirs made.

and sometimes A's strings are identical to B's strings just in a different package with a different name... Not arguing your point just augmenting...

Is anyone state side carrying status strings. It would make ordering easier. Their tapewounds are a smaller gauge with less tension than others I have seen which works great for me. Also getting singles is an issue.
