DR Black Beautie Users

Ive done a few searches and didnt really come up with much other than the report from Ed F....whom broke down the line of DR strings very well.

BTW: he recommends the BB's...

I will give you a little run down as to my problem, I have been using Brand A strings with great success , but I have taking on the roll of soloist lately and finding that my intonation is off greatly above the 13th fret...hence me looking into other string replacements....
I need a string that can be strung through body...i normally play stainless steel, but the black beauties are nickel wrapped...im kinda back to the drawing board.

If you have any experience with these strings...love to hear about it

thanks
Randyt

Hmmm, you're sure the bass' intonation is set overall?

A fretted instrument is a compromise in intonation. Strings really don't have anything to do with it (so long as their not so dead that you can't tune them). You need to have the intonation of your instrument set. If you don't know how to do a set up yourself, have someone do it for you.

Thanks guys, its not the intonation of the bass...and Im very adept at setting up basses.
The strings Im using are exposed core strings, and have inherent problems with that type of design

As previously suggested, I'd check your intonation first to make sure it's fixed.

As far as the Black Beauties go, I have a set on my Jazz Bass and really like them. They have a high end "pop" that I wasn't getting with Ernie Balls. This can be a good thing or bad thing, but I've found it's not too much extra high end. Overall, a pretty well balanced string. Oh, and they look pretty cool.

Are you slightly bending the strings? Many players do this without even knowing it, just a slight amount will do it on the higher positions. A string like black Beauties which are round core and flexible will bring out this effect even more.

It really depends on how much of the exposed / tapered part of the string is extending over the bridge. This is why Circle K's are still my favorite tapered strings.

Why not just use the untapered Black Beauties?? They should be long enough to string through the body as well and should correct the intonation issue which is inherent in tapered/exposed core designs.

I just put these on my Ibanez 5 string and so far love them. They were very easy to tune, but in regards to your individual intonation, not going to add anything new.

Thanks for the input guys...i was contacted (PM'ed) by a couple TB'ers that used Exposed core strings and they are having the same issue with top load bridges. ...if used with string through bodys...it lessens the distance of string from saddle, fixing any issues with intonation.

I was just exploring the issue of black beauties..thanks
