DR Black Beauties/DR Neons Vs. Rotosound Nexus

Sign in to disble this ad
Has anyone tried both of these sets of strings? If so, how would you compare them?
I'm currently using a set of the Nexus strings on my P-Bass Deluxe. I love the sound of these strings, but I've also got a set of DR Black Beauties and a set of DR Orange Neons sitting there that I'm itching to put on but was just wondering about others experiences with them in comparison to the Nexus strings.

On the other hand, I've also got a box with Elixirs, D'Addario EXP's, Ernie Ball Super Slinkies, Fender 8250's, Rotosound 45's and a couple other sets that I've forgotten about. Yeah....I'm a string whore, but I just can't help it.

um i havent tried the nexus strings yet but i can tell u that the DR coated has high mids, but no bass and little treble. i like them but want more low end but my eq on my amp adds enough.

Thanks Thaos627. Just a little update....I bought another bass since my OP and put the Black Beauties on it. Both of my basses have the active EQ built in(Fender P Deluxe and Squier Deluxe Active V) so I can adjust to get the bass and treble when I want it. I'm liking the DR's much more then the Rotosounds to be honest. Awesome strings so far!

I tried the rotosound nexus once long ago but wasnt as impressed sound wise as the with the swing66 and coating showed premature wear from pick use. I am useing dr neons (Ive used them on 3 basses since this past october) really like them sound and feel wise. The neons are a little brighter then rotosound swing66 but also have slightly tighter and slightly stronger low bass then the rotosounds. I havent tried the new black beauties. They use same coating as the neons except in black. So only sound diff between them and the neons should be if diff string core type.

I like DR strings, but not their coated strings. I had a set of Black Beauties on my darth vadar jazz. They feel like plastic and if you want a flat wound tone they are good. Not a fan of flat wounds so... But, I recently decided to try a set of Aurora coated strings and really like them! Its been 2 month and so far so good.

Nexus and DR's sound almost the exact same. if u have ever used rotosound strings u will easily reconize their signature cut-through attack. the rotosound nexus r DR's with a more aggressive attack and they can be brighter if u use a pick.
