DR Black Beauties- High Tension?

Sign in to disble this ad
Well... ever since I put on my new set of BB's I've noticed that it seems to take considerably more effort to play... ugh. Sad, because I love the way they look, but they're killing my hands. Anyone know the tension on these (relative to other rounds?) I was using Roto Swing 66's before this.

Hmm, I just put new BBs on today and didn't notice a significant difference in tension. I had DR Sunbeams on before that.

Hi- just a tip, when people say "tension", they usually mean stiffness/flexibility. Having said that, BB's should feel a lot more "comfortable" than the Rotos.

Exact same experience here, put them on two days ago, replacing a set of Sunbeams. I haven't noticed any real difference in tension (no neck adjustment needed/no change in action). A little bit stiffer feeling than the Sunbeams but, they're new strings. Smoother feel and they sound awesome!

My favorite strings, I use them on my Jazz Bass tuned down one and a half steps. There's still plenty of tension with them dropped that low. I had them on my 35" scale 5 string and the tension seemed tight, maybe a little more then other strings.

Meh, I'll probably just have to let them break in. Thanks all!

Curious, the Peacock Blues I had on my Yammy felt softer and more flexible than the usual Rotos.

i love the BBs on my Ibanez Prestige 5er. They have a drier feeling to me than some of the other coated strings which can get slick (elixer). I really like that particularly for balancing attack with my right hand. I'm afraid they aren't going to be long enough for the Lakland 55-01 i've got on the way. Shame, i think the red devils would have been sweet on a black bass.
