Unhappy DR black beauty

Ok I am new to the forum and I have a question. I have a peavey grind 5 and I have been using EB super slinkies for quite a while now, but I would like a little more sparkle particularly on the higher notes and harmonics. I have been considering stainless wound strings and I really like what I read about DR lo-riders but I worry about them being to harsh. I dont like a lot af clang or grind normally associated with stainless. The black beauties sound like a good comprimise. They are stainless, if I am not mistaken, yet they are coated so it should dull the harshness some while still providing more high end and harmonics than nickle. Right? Any help here would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I'd say there is still less high end in the BBs than in an uncoated string. At least, at first. After the uncoated strings have been worn down, the coated strings still sound the same.

IME/IMO, the coated strings sound like they've been played for two weeks for several months. There's still some clang if you want it, but they never quite zing the way a fresh set of uncoated SS or even Nickel strings do.

The DR black beauties have changed their coating to the same one used on the new neon strings. But in black of course. Anyway, the neons are brighter toned then some stainless steel. Not in a bad way though. More like a bit more brilliant version of rotosound swing66 and with a little added difinition to the low bass. Most comments on the BB are gonna be from those whove used them with the old coating. This coating also showed significant wear off for pick players fairly quickly, at least in some cases. The new coating lasts much longer. However I'm not sure what the sound diff between the black beauties and neons is. Just wanted to point out that todays BB arent quite the same as those from 3 months ago and before that.

Ive tried some other coated strings and didnt like any of them. I do like the neons for both sound and feel. Id say try the new BB's. Thye will probably satisfy you. And if not those, then the neons. Which as best I understand might be a little brighter sounding. Btw I'm a pick user. Theyve been on one of my basses for 3 months now.And theres only a tiny bit of nicks to coating on a couple strings which you bassically need a magnifying glass to see em.

I have Dr black beauties and I honestly really dont like them. I can put my finger on it, lol no pun intended. I prefer regular Rotos way better and the coating really aint that great only lasted 5 weeks before there was major wear. When they are new though they look awesome lol.
