Hey,
I'm wondering if anyone knows how well DR coated strings will last when using a pick.
Thanks.

I use the DR BB's and I like the tone, still pretty good after a few months, but the coating is getting worn where I touch them the most. I play FS 95%, so where I pluck mostly on the E and A strings you can see the coating wearing off, and some on the fretboard also on the E and A.
Overall I like them just fine. |

My experience is 1-2 practice sessions shows significant wear. It is interesting to see where it shows up - it can be a training device if you want to monitor how it alters tone by picking in different areas.

While the coating does wear off where you pick, the strings do not go dead. I've had Black beauties on for months now and they still ring clear, even with the pick wear.

but the red devils sound Waaaaay warmer, and if your bass is just a liiiitle too trebly, these work best.
also, if the coasting starts to wear, the strings are still good, it doesnt affect the tone for about three months from anywhere to seven months.

The reds devils sound different to the black? I thought they were just different colours. Are you sure it was not just because it was a different set that they sounded different?
That would be cool if they are different, as I didn't like the red ones so figured I wouldn't the black and never tried them. |

Like those amp power cables people swear are better. |

They still sound really good too. |

They still sound really good too. | I plan on putting them on a Thumb myself. How do they sound on your Warwick? How bright are they? Are they really growly, or more piano crunchy?
I can't seem to find any clips of the strings with Warwicks, that's why I'm asking.
Edit: And, what is the tension like on the Extra Life strings? Are they hex-core or round-core?
