I got a pretty good gig coming up in January and thought it might be cool to show up with some color strings on my '86 all black Fender Jazz Bass Special (like Duff). Maybe Blue or Red? I read that the color comes off with use but what I really want to know is how do they sound? We play straight ahead rock with some originals. Thanks |

The sound isn't quite as bright as the Roto's, but the mids are very strong and they are punchy as can be. I've only had them on for a couple of gigs, so I don't know what life to expect from them, but I'm glad I tried them. No color loss yet, but they haven't yet gotten a hot, sweaty workout either. As always, YMMV.

funny story about them . . . my friend is a dealer, and wanted me to check them out so he gave me a few sets. well one was an acoustic guitar set. so I had a gig later in the week on acoustic guitar so I figured I wouldn't need to go out and get strings. so an hour before the show I re-string and low and behold they are rainbow colored . . . AND the gig was televised! |

I like them not for the color, but they have a sort of subdued sound that I like. They aren't too clanky, but they aren't too flat either. To me they sound round, full and even. I like them a lot. Ok, the color is kinda cool too |

i personally do not like DRs, the color wore off quickly, and i play fingerstyle....
really good midrange, but i found the E to be a bit lacking...
tone dies quick after a good week.
i would go with EB.

| | | | I was wondering does anyone know if the Dr color strings have a different tone, like the Elixirs? The Elixirs have a really cool funky sound, just right for slap, and finger style. I have been wanting to try the Dr black beauties and was wondering if they too had a simular sound.

very fresh sounding and and and the ones i like. |

as you can see in the picture, i'm mainly a pick player.
the sound is quite punchy but not bright as compared to my usual strings (D'Addarios). looks very good though.

| | | | Is it safe to asssume that any coating on a string could dampen the sustain and effect the overall tonality of the same string without a coating? |
