Are these wound on a hex core or round core?

Can anyone who knows tell me what is special about the construction of DR DDTs? I keep hearing varying accounts of 'fatter / stiffer core', 'the core is wound', 'spirocores'. So far I get the impression, perhaps wrongly, that the core is larger and stiffer than average to avoid too much flop at low tensions. I'm interested ...
