Alright, simple question, I play metal and Im picking up a 5 string that I found on CL this week and I plan to replace the strings the day I get it, I have done research and I decided that I want to get DR strings but which one is superior; The Elixers or Black Beauties??

Elixir is a different brand than DR. Having said that, the Elixirs feel better under my fingers (the Black Beauties stick for me), and sound clearer, with more definition up top (IMO), but they are both good strings.

oh, my bad.. huh I wonder why I thought they were DR's... haha but thanks for the advice. I was also hearing that the black beauties 'blackness' wears off where you strike it pretty fast which is pretty lame.

The color on DRA coated colored strings DOES wear off after a while depending on how hard U play- if U play with a pick etc... but really It's pretty hard to tell from an observers position.
IMO/IME Elixirs are a better quality & better at holding their 'newness' than DR coateds.

The coating on Elixirs also wears off at the picking area- but as they're silver U don't see it as much. DR DO make silver coateds too- & red & blue, pink..etc...

Where I live Elixirs are more expensive than DR coateds & I've found that D'addario EXP coated- are good 4 me. I get sweaty hands & strings go 'off' on me very quickly, si I try not to grab ANYTHING BUT coated strings these days- in roundwounds anyway.

So for me - ELIXIR's are the best, D'addario EXP coated next & DR's 3rd- outta the coated strings I've tried anyway. I haven't tried the new Ernie Ball coateds or GHS etc...
