That makes sense, especially given that he now uses the DR's also, which last quite a long time. Cool.

I use Fat Beams on my basses. While I'm touring I bring a set per 2 shows. So last fall while on tour with Paul Gilbert, I brought 30 sets of Fat Beams to Europe with me. We did 57 shows and I still had 3 sets left at the end of the tour.

I never had to worry about breaking them in. They stay in tune right off the bat. No stretching involved! I used to stretch the hell out of other strings or I would be out of tune within 5 seconds of the first song.

I looked for years for a set of strings that I could stick with. I go through a lot of strings in a years time so I have tried everything under the sun in the last 27 years. I have been using Dr for about 10 years give or take and they are the only strings that sound the same every set I get.

So, no need to stretch/break-in these strings they are ready to go as soon as you tune them up and play for a couple minutes and re tune.

I've got a batch of DRs that have had bad D string that won't intonate properly. Sucks.

Really? hmmmm I have have had strings that sound deadish out of the package before(not DR). But I'm not sure if I understand why your string won't intonate. What is it doing that causes you to not be able to intonate??

Are they your normal gauge? I ask you this because if you change strings with a lighter/heavier strings the intonation will be off for sure.

I've had that problem with Fender taperwounds, but not with the Fat Beams. They have been great and intonated with no problem on my Squier VM Jazz and MIM 70s Jazz.

DR is a great company. If you e-mail them about your problem they'll help you out at no cost. They've done it for me several times.

It is so different, that once I'm done with the set, I have to send it back to Mark. They're keeping "control" of the sets in the field and they don't want somebody to reverse engineer the strings.

PS- since you like Hi Beams, you'll like the flex index on this new set.
Any updates Hasbeen? Looking foreward to hearing the latest.

God Bless, Ray
