| I'm a big fan out of it right now, however I must tell you that I've only been using flats for the last year or so (I don't really know what others sound like compared other than fender). I made the change went I started playing in a band that did a lot of rockabilly, country, swing type of stuff. They give me a nice old school plug/thump P-bass sound - closer to the old stand up sound. I guess you could say classic Fender sound.
I just put a set on my jazz bass though, and they sound awesome - a lot brighter as one would expect with a jazz while still retaining the warmth of the flat.
The playability of them can't be beat though. They are silky smooth. The only other flats I had tried were Fenders, which I found to be unplayable when compared to the DR's. The tention just wasn't there on 'em - and they sounded a bit clanky for me. |
