DR Hi-Beam intonation weirdness

Sign in to disble this ad
I put a set of 45 - 100 Hi - Beams on a couple of days ago.

As usual when I change to a different brand or weight of strings, I checked the intonation with my Stroboflip tuner. The shocker was that the saddle for the 45 had to be set back almost as far as for the 100. I know that the intonation is related to the core diameter. Does this mean that the core of the 45 is almost as thick as the core of the 100? It looks pretty unusual, but the 45 does play in tune up and down the neck.

Anyone else that has tried these strings observed the same thing?
