DR HI-Beams - 35" Spector

Sign in to disble this ad
Spector 5 string basses - 35" scale Euro's and one American.

DR HI-Beams
Medium (XL Scale) LMR-45 45 65 85 105 125

Will they fit on this bass? I have searched and found answers saying YES and NO. Little confused over here!

Any help is appreciated.

Also, any truth to the Tapered B string (.125) being easy to intonate versus a non-tapered string? It was easier on my Ken Smith Strings, BUT I am changing brands. Too many dead strings out of the box and do not last very long on my basses.

Of course they'll fit!

No truth in the tapered string thing.

They should fit with no issue. One of my old Spectors had issues accepting a .130 DR Lo-Rider, but that was because the bridge slot was not wide enough for an untapered, .130 gauge string, not because it wasn't long enough. With a .125, there should be no issue at all.

Tapered vs. non-tapered boils down to personal preference. Even if it is easier to intonate (I'm not sure that it is), there are some trade-offs with a tapered string and most folks greatly prefer one over the other. I happen to not like tapered strings, but others love them and swear by them. I will just say that it shouldn't be an issue to intonate a .125 gauge, non-tapered B string on a Spector 5er. Good luck!

Just wanted to let you all know that I have decided on DR HI-Beams 45-125 set. I have those currently on two basses and my last remaining Ken Smith Round wounds on the third bass. Thank you for all of the help.

On a side note, I do not know why Ken Smith Round Wounds are giving me so much trouble lately. I have gotten several bad batches of strings. Strings have been dying on me within hours of being installed. Some are dying within 2 months, sometimes it is just the .125 B string that dies. I know I do not beat up on the strings like a gorilla, but I wonder what is really happening?
