DR Hi-Beams price....

My bass has been in storage for the past 8 years or so and I just started playing the past few months. I've got a Peavey Cirrus, original series, with some really old Cirrus strings on it. Now I find out they don't make the nickel ones anymore. I used to be a DR Hi-Beam user, but I found that I liked the Cirrus nickel strings a teensy bit more. No problem, I figure I'll go back to the DR's. I call two local guitar shops and neither have them. One offers to order them for me. So I'm thinking like $35 for the strings. HA, NOT! He tells me one set of DR Hi-Beams 5 string, medium is gonna cost.....$$48!! Holy F! So I went on eBay on got two sets from a guy for $55 to my door.
This is just a little lament about trying to help the smaller guys, but that is just outrageous. I live in Vermont and the nearest chain like Daddy's or some others are 1.5 to 2.5 hour drive away. You can't get there from here!
On the other hand, I will be in heaven next week with new strings for my Cirrus and Modulus Q5 fretless!

I try and help smaller companies if possible. But there is only so much of a price difference that customer service can justify!

+1 Fair prices, huge selection and fast shipping to the door here in VA. Really like those DR Nickel Lo-Riders!

I use juststrings.com as well. I try to buy local and usually do, but when they are out of stock, I find I get them faster ordering myself than waiting for the store to get them.

Bass emporium

I've been really happy with these guys. The dollar or two higher price than Just Strings is usually offset w/lower shipping prices.

If they don't have a set you're looking for, they'll actually ask you if you would like something else, instead of not saying anything to you, back ordering it, and forcing you to wait 3 weeks or a month.

When the price difference is large, it definitley makes sense to shop online. That added to the fact that a lot of music shop owners are complete arses, and often dont deserve supporting means I nearly always go online for strings.

Guess how much I would have to pay if I wanted a hi-beam 5er set in the UK from one of the cheapest places (online)?.... £37....thats $55!! Seems a little silly when you can get two four string sets of most others (Rotosound, D'addario, EB, etc) for that, or one 5er set and £15 change.
