| | | | DR Highneams - Great, but too bright

I've been playing DR Highbeams for a few months now and LOVE the way they feel. Just the most comfortable strings ever, IMO. Nice punch too. Problem is, they're just too bright and twangy at times.
Any suggestions for strings that are just as comfortable, with nice punch, but not as bright and twangy? I was thinking of DR Sunbeams. Are these basically like Highbeams, but not as bright?
I would try a whole bunch of brands, if I could afford it, but I can't, so I'm trying to narrow it down. No one here has steered me wrong yet, so I figured I'd ask.
Thanks. |

They are kind of like worn-out HiBeams, all the punch, great feel, etc, with a little more warmth and less shrill highs...
Also, easier on your frets (they are nickel). My personal favorite string ever. |

The only downside is they don't last as long as the DRs (which seem to last forever). |

Lo-Riders are real good goers...
Seriously, though. DR Lo-riders.

Seriously, though. DR Lo-riders. | I use both the Nickel and Stainless version of the LoRiders. Love them both but use them on completely different bass's.
I have sunbeams on my fretless and like them there but prefer the nickel loriders for a fretted bass which are the one's that I would recommend.

I can control the top end with that handy little knob right there on the bass, gradually bringing it up as the strings first break in, then slowly die over a few weeks. I like knowing I've got a little extra top end up my sleeve for when I need it.

I dig the Sunbeams and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. I'm also a big fan of MTD strings. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
