DR Lo-Rider M5-45

Hey all!

Just got a Brubaker Brute MJX-5. Went to install a brand new set of 45-125 DR Lo-riders (steel).

All went well until I put the E string on. The A-D-G strings are typical steel, if not shiny at least bright. The E string, however, is nearly charcoal in color, and you can clearly tell its not even close to the color of the others. Anyone ever experience or see this? Is this some way to make it easier to play a five string and tell where you are?

Also, as I was winding the B string up it actually came apart and the winding literally separated on the tuning post. Not from where it was originally cut, but over an inch away from any cut and the end of the string. And, it wouldn't come to tension, just continued to unravel.

I could use your opinions and help here.

So, i now have a Brute with 4 DR's and one unknown Chinese brand B string, and on top of it I have four strings that are shiny and one that looks almost black.

Any ideas?

I'm no expert, but it sounds like you clearly got a bad set of strings. Take them back to the store, and if they won't take them back, write DR. DRs are not exactly cheap, and that sounds unacceptable to me. My latest set has a B that's just as shiny as the rest.

Contact DR customer service. They have a stellar reputation and will make things right for you, especially with the B string. Probably, they will just send you a whole new set of strings for your troubles.

Thanks...

I live in NJ about 45 minutes from the DR plant.

This isn't Russo Music's fault, so I emailed DR this morning. I have attached pictures of the string color mismatch here so you can see what I was talking about.

As for the B string, this type of stuff does happen, so I'm sure that will be resolved amicably.

Wow, very strange. That's my preferred string and I've never had that happened. Sub'd to see how DR handles this one.

Got contacted late yesterday as expected from DR. They are sending me something, I'm assuming its a full set based on the emails, but either way I have at least a B and E on its way.

As always, NJ based companies rock!

DR's customer service rocks!!! I live in NJ as well and I had an issue with a set of their Black Beauties coated strings. The G string wasn't winding properly on the tuner post; it kept slipping. I called them up, spoke to a rep and within a day or two had brand new complete set of strings. Great company with great customer service.

Anthony at DR comes thru! New set of Lo-Riders for the 5 arrived yesterday. All look soooo much better then the other set. Only problem I have now, and its a small one, is that I have to restring the whole bass again. But I guess that's not a bad problem to have.

DR's customer service is second to none!!! as with any company that produces a large quantity of anything there will always be a few of them that are less than perfect. That is just how it is nothing is perfect 100% of the time. But it is how a company takes care of you with their customer service that will always keep my business. i have been using DR strings since the 90's and and over the years i have gotten a set or two that had some issue and never once have DR failed to rectify it and they ask alot of questions to help them figure out why it happened so they can keep it from happening again. I have never had the same problem twice. Just my 2¢.

peace
Dave
