| DR Longnecks, need some opinions

I use an American Deluxe Jazz 5 string. It is a great bass and I love it but the 34'' scale often brings a weak or flabby sounding B string. I found that using a taperwound B string and stringing through the body helps give it better tention, tone, and volume, it really makes it a better string. I bought a very expensive set of DR Longnecks after using La bella Hard Rockin Steels just for the sake of trying something different. They have a great tone and feel but fret out pretty badly from the 12th fret and above. I play with a considerably low action but never had a problem with the stock Fender 8250 5M's or the La Bella's. Has anyone using the DR Longnecks had this problem of insane fret buzz? They are a great string and I like the sound but even after a pro set up my saddles are up much higher than I am comfortable with and I am still hearing a good deal of fret buzz. I am a 20 year vet standing behind basses. I just want to make sure that other players have experienced this problem before I come to conclusions, and after paying $40 for the set I would like to use them as long as I can. Thanks for the help friends! |
