DR Marcus Miller Stainless RW's on a FRETLESS

I keep tweaking my singlecut R-Bass fretless fiver. Getting the right sound on this bass has been elusive. Whether its the pickups or the wood, the bass has peaks in the sound that dont please my ears.

Tapes, flats, rounds....I had a set of DR Fatbeams (with Marcus Miller's picture on the package) and figured I'd give them a try.

Stainless roundwounds on a boutique bass? I admit its a bit reckless but as Rick Turner said, "fingerboards are a consumable"

Have to admit they sound very nice.

Rough on the fingers but very strong bottom and good balance.

So I know this thread is a year old, but I've just picked up an old Tobias Standard 5 fretless and it came with a nearly new set of Fat Beams on it and the first thing I did was swap them out for a set of Sadowsky flats I had sitting around. Now I'm thinking of giving the MM's another try. I'm similarly challenged in trying to get the right sound for my ears though I suspect at least some of that can be remedied with a good setup. Still...since I have them sitting around I might as well experiment, eh?
