DR owes me free strings: help me decide?

Sign in to disble this ad
Since DR took over 2 months to deliver me my "loud n' proud" DR logo t-shirt, they're sending me a free set of strings as compensation. Cool guys.

Anyways, I'm floating between the Nickel Lo-Riders and the highbeam flats. I love both flats and rounds, but I'm leaning towards the nickel lo-riders right now as my cv jazz bass is currently strung with Roto flats and I can always put em back on. Can anyone tell me a little bit about the Nickel Lo-Riders?

I'm going to stay away from the more common strings like the stainless steel highbeams as my local music shop almost always has them in stock.

Thanks

I'd go with the Nickels..

I love DR's LoRider Nickel stings on a Jazz, they add a great amount of depth and tonal character. They have a nice warmth and a good lifespan. They have always been my second favorite rounds next to the Sunbeams.

PS Cool deal you're getting, as you can see DR is a great brand backed by great people.

Yessir, get the Lo-Riders, that's all I used to play with, but I moved on to the Marcus sets.

Your choices are my favorite DR's with Black Beauties being a distant third. I'd take the DR's, they are worth more and if you don't like them, you can probably trade them for lo-riders. Lo-Riders are the only rounds I like. Solid and very fundamental for rounds. Very durable too.

I find Low Riders a little stiffer than Sunbeams and that's good because it minimizes low-action fret buzz. There's a set of nickel-wound Low Riders on my 62 ri jazz and I like them a lot.

If you don't use a pick, try their coated strings. I didn't love 'em, but still felt it was quite worth the experience trying them.
